I know this seems very weird to say, but as I am putting together advice for people about getting a position and programming in a position, I wanted to be very clear on what I expect of you. At the top of many pages here, you will see:
There is no hack for finding a position, please be honest in every interaction.
And the reason for this is that I want to give you good and solid information. And this does not mean that I want to give you information to trick anyone, or sneak your way past something. I want you to be your best selves. I want for you to find a position that fits where you are right now, that will allow you to grow as fits you.
With that being said, here are the principals I want you to bring with you into EVERY interaction.
- Be Clear
- Be Honest
- Be Open
I have had a couple of different interviews that seemed to go pretty well, and in 1 or 2 parts of that interview, I got a clear indication that they were not being honest with me. And no matter how the rest of that interview went, the instantly went into the “NO” pile.
